Merino

Real Spanish Merino wool

Merino is a breed of sheep whose wool consists of very thin but strong fibers. Merino sheep come from Spain, where painstaking breeding work has been carried out to improve the fleece for many centuries. For a long time, Spain remained a monopolist in the cultivation of merino sheep, but in the 18th century these sheep were brought to Sweden, Saxony, and then to Australia and New Zealand.

Two centuries later, the number of Merino sheep reached a record 155 million sheep, in Australia and New Zealand alone!

Merino yarn (wool) is a real champion.

Merino sheep are real champions in the amount of wool they produce. One animal can produce up to 15 kg of wool per year. Other breeds of sheep are capable of growing no more than 6 - 7 kg of wool fiber. But the main advantage of merino sheep is the quality of their wool! Hair fineness ranges from 14.5 to 23 microns! For comparison: in coarse-wool sheep, the fineness is 25 - 35 microns, and the finer the hair. the softer.

The most valued merino wool is with a hair fineness of 16 to 17 microns - "EXSTRAFINE" - especially fine, "SUPERFINE" - 18 -19 microns - very fine.

This wool does not irritate even the very sensitive skin of newborns, is suitable for allergy sufferers, and has a beneficial effect on the body. In addition, merino wool retains its good appearance for a long time, is three times softer than silk and four times more elastic than cotton.

This is the only type of wool for which an artificial version cannot be created, since it is unique in its qualities and composition. That's why the price is always high. Careful care of merino items will allow you to enjoy them for a long time!
